Long Range Planning Meeting:
Brian has a list of topics discussed at the meeting:
Want to increase funding and faculty
Talk about Manhattanville planning
Administration needs students to speak up for coordination between faculty and administration
Not sure where SEAS will fit into Manhattanville planning; need student input to help make decisions
We need to set up a better system in which students can voice their concerns
Talked about the new dean, and how a search committee will be formed will have one, possibly two students; Dan Okin requested that he be able to put a few students from council on the board; however, provost and Bollinger have the most say, and the search committee does not ultimately make the final decision
Want SEAS to become more interdisciplinary; should we have joint degrees and programs such as Penn’s, where students can get engineering and business degrees, for example?
Want to make Financial Engineering its own major, not just a concentration
Going to focus in on emerging fields and technology much better
Council is going to have to come up with a plan to voice the students’ opinions concerning these issues; panel discussions and e-mails could be used
